				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a target="_blank" class="zem_slink" title="Paleolithic diet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleolithic_diet" rel="wikipedia">Paleo Diet</a> is not just another new diet fad to hit the book store shelves. Based on the eating practices of our ancestors, this diet combines the low carb diet concept with a little more common sense in regards to items like fruits and vegetables. This diet could also be called the gluten free Paleo diet since following it will also put you on a gluten free tract.</p>
<p>With all these things going for it, it just may be the right diet for you.</p>
<p>Our ancestors had a very different idea of what processed food meant. If a fish had been cleaned, it had received all the processing it needed. Rinse the dirt off a vegetable and the processing was done. In today&#8217;s world, processing usually involves heavy machinery and a myriad of new ingredients added to the original.</p>
<p>This processing changes the way our bodies process the food and appears to be having a significant impact on the health. The gluten free paleo diet encourages that we eat from a wide range of unprocessed foods including fresh meat, seafood, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.</p>
<p>Many studies are emerging showing that there do seem to be many great health benefits to following the Paleo diet. While the opponents of the diet say that there are simply too many variables involved, the fact remains that even they have to admit benefits do seem to exist.</p>
<p>While some argue the benefits are derived from the gluten free nature of the diet, others argue it is from the lack of food processing. Either way, the gluten free Paleo diet is finding new supporters daily in the form of both Doctors and regular people who are successfully losing weight and feeling great.</p>
<p>It is unlikely that any diet program is the perfect answer for everyone. However, the Paleo diet seems to be the closest diet out there to meeting the dietary and weight loss needs of most. Very few people can argue long against the health benefits of eating foods that are fresh and unprocessed.</p>
<p>By returning to our roots and eating like our ancestors, we just may find our way back to a better level of health. This diet certainly deserves an honest look.</p>

<p>One of the worst types of foods that a person can eat is dairy. Dairy products are overly processed and very hard to digest. People were not meant to drink milk after infancy. There is nothing natural about taking the milk that mother animals naturally create for their young. Most people who go by the Paleo diet do not drink any milk or consume yogurts or cheeses.</p>
<p>Paleo diet smoothies, therefore, should never include milk. A great alternative to milk is coconut milk. It creates a creamy consistency and adds much more flavor. Many varieties are very high in saturated fat, though free of cholesterol and high in fiber. Reduced fat versions are great and they can help regulate bowel movements.</p>
<p>Almond milk is another great animal milk alternative that can be purchased with reduced fat. It tastes very similar to animal milk, though it has a slightly nutty flavor and odor. High in vitamins and minerals, it is a favorite for those on a Paleo diet.</p>
<p>For flavor and color, paleo diet smoothies can be made with organic berries and other fruits and vegetables. Some produce is healthier than others, with tropical fruits such as bananas and mangoes with leading natural sugar contents.</p>
<p>Raw eggs can be an extra source of protein, however, the outside shell of the egg needs to be washed first to avoid salmonella. Only fresh, organic eggs free of fine cracks should be used. The inside of a healthy egg is normally free of bacteria so long as it is fully intact and properly refrigerated.</p>
<p>Paleo diet smoothies can be purchased or made in advance and stored in a freezer or refrigerator for a quick on-the-go breakfast solution or snack. Exercise is important for every diet. With this decrease in unnatural preservatives and chemicals, the body can thrive and flourish as pounds drop off at a healthy, natural rate.</p>

It is only within, approximately, the last 10,000 years that domesticated agriculture has appeared. Many researchers think that people have had too little time to adapt to this change. This is the idea behind the paleo diet.</p>
<p>The domestication of plants and animals has resulted in a profound alteration in what sorts of foods are normally consumed. Organized agriculture has meant more reliance on cereal grains than anything else. The archaeological evidence indicates grains were of little importance to our ancestors.</p>
<p>This has been confirmed through the study of various hunter-gatherer tribal societies that exist today. The studies of these tribal people also indicate that they don&#8217;t suffer from such diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. The foods they rely on form the basis of the paleo diet.</p>
<p>They appear to consume fairly high amounts of meat, which includes fish and poultry along with red meat. They also eat fruit and vegetables. Few advocates of the paleo diet try to exactly duplicate the foods eaten by these various tribes. This is just as well, since many of them include insects, like grubs and ants, in their diets. Instead, modern equivalents with the same general characteristics are used in putting together the paleo diet food list.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t too much of a stretch when applied to fruits and vegetables. Seafood and poultry are also easy to substitute. When it comes to red meat, there is some debate on using grain-fed beef. Many advocates recommend that only grass-fed meats be used. They have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. This would make them more closely resemble the wild animals ancient hunters would have eaten.</p>
<p>Rounding out the paleo diet food list would be tree nuts, eggs, shellfish, seeds, and mushrooms. What won&#8217;t be included on the list is grains, beans and peanuts, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils. Dairy products are usually excluded, but some advocates think they are acceptable.</p>
<p>All of this seems to be vindicated by studies of people in modern cultures who have switched to this diet. They show improvements in weight, blood pressure, and blood-sugar levels.</p>

The diet during the time when our digestive systems matured to what they are now was a hunter-gatherer diet, consisting primarily of meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, roots and nuts. There were no refined sugars, processed oils or other such modern day things in our diets.</p>

Quite often, it’s not about having loads of recipes to use all the time, but simply diversifying your food choices.</p>
<p>Some people will argue that being on the Paleo diet is very restrictive and doesn’t allow enough food to be satisfying to the taste buds. I think it’s practically the opposite that can happen, especially if you’re devoted to trying new foods out and experiment a bit.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s not forget that most people who argue that there are too many food groups that are not permitted on the Paleo diet are the ones who eat a diet based heavily on grains and oftentimes their meal plan doesn’t offer that much diversity.</p>
<p>I’ve compiled a paleo diet food list of the most popular and readily available foods that are paleo diet friendly and I think it will prove to be more useful to consult before doing your shopping for ideas of what to buy to change things up a bit.</p>
<p>For me personally, I don’t like the idea of always eating pork, beef or chicken and only one type of fat like coconut oil. Those foods are certainly good for you, but can lose their appeal if you eat too much of them. I try to eat a diversity of foods and choose cuts of meat I wouldn’t choose normally, even though I oftentimes have no idea how to prepare them.</p>
<p>This is, in my opinion, what puts the fun back in eating and makes us more conscious of where our food comes from and what it does for us. This is the reason why this paleo diet food list includes meats, vegetables or fruits that are less popular, but still easy to get at a fair price.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When it comes to living a long and healthy life, there are two necessary ingredients: diet and fitness. While some believe that they are one thing all together, nothing could be further from the truth. It is quite possible to have a perfectly healthy diet with deplorable fitness habits. It is equally possible to be very physically fit with less than savory eating habits.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a clever little line in the Jimmy Buffet song &#8220;Fruitcakes&#8221; when his &#8216;lady&#8217; is lamenting:<br />
&#8220;I treat my body like a temple<br />
You treat yours like a tent&#8221;</p>
<p>I can&#8217;t help but think of this line whenever I think about all the people around the world who are going on these garbage in, garbage out diet plans hoping to achieve the weight loss success of those who are endorsing these products.</p>
<p>To be completely honest, it is possible to shed pounds through diet alone. It is difficult but possible. It is also possible to be physically fit and have a few extra pounds hanging around. To a large degree we are what we eat. If we consume a high fat low substance diet our bodies are going to lack the fuel required to burn the fat. At the same time if we aren&#8217;t providing our bodies with the tools it needs to build muscle it doesn&#8217;t matter how many weights we lift.</p>
<p>When it comes to diet and fitness, the best results are achieved when they work together rather than separately. Use your fitness routine to burn excess calories and use your diet in order to properly provide your body the nutrients and fuel it needs to build muscle. I&#8217;ve heard many times in my life that a pound of muscle weighs less than a pound of fat. While this is not true at all, a pound is a pound regardless; a pound of muscle occupies less space on the body than a pound of fat. Pound for pound, I would much rather mine be composed of muscle than fat. Dieting alone does not build muscle and that is something you will do well to remember in your efforts.</p>
<p>You should also realize that as you are building muscle you may be shedding inches while not showing a great deal of progress on the scale. It is very important that you keep this in mind throughout the weight loss process. Do not measure your progress by the scales alone or you will achieve misleading results. The problem is that far too many people do just this and get frustrated and give up when they are actually making progress. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of the scales. Look in the mirror, try on your tight pants, and measure your waistline. Measure your success by how you feel after climbing a flight of stairs not by how many pounds fell of the scale this week.</p>
<p>By incorporating fitness into your diet routine you are also enabling your body to burn off any extra calories you may have consumed during the day. This means that if you want to have a small &#8216;cheat&#8217; during your day, you can make up for it by burning a few more calories than normal in the evening. This isn&#8217;t something that should happen often but an occasional occurrence isn&#8217;t going to make or break your diet.</p>
<p>You should also look at dieting and fitness as a ball and glove type of relationship. While you can play ball without the glove, it seems to work so much better if you have both. Diet and fitness when combined can create fantastic weight loss results for those who take them both seriously. The thing to remember is that neither works as well alone and neither will work unless you are willing to do the work. You must make this a priority in your life in order to achieve the best possible results.</p>
