Brushing Up On the Basics of the Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet Food list, simply put, is made up of all natural, organic, wild and unprocessed foods excluding ALL grain & dairy. I wouldn’t be to shocked at this statement as there are more than enough allowed foods that you won’t even miss the bad grains and dairy.
The ‘allowed foods’ while on this caveman diet are plentiful enough so that mealtimes stay exciting and satisfying. It’s important to note that the use of herbs and spices are not prohibited in any way. What’s not to love about eating all types of meats, seafood and great tasting fruits and vegetables? We’d like to add that the use of natural oils like coconut and extra virgin olive oil is allowed but stay away from the table salt and refined white sugar. (We prefer Himalayan salt and Stevia sweeteners)
The main point to remember is that this Paleolithic diet was used by ancient man and was purely a high protein, low carb diet. Again, say farewell to the majority of your dairy products (which are proven to cause many allergies and other maladies), your carbonated soda’s, beer, liquor and pretty much all products with caffeine.
The more dedicated you are to this or any healthy diet, the faster you’ll see results and the longer you’ll stay on it. We still enjoy a glass of wine, ice cold beer and a nice cup of coffee from time to time. However, the only drink that’s permitted is ordinary drinking water and our absolute favorite, Coconut Water.

What’s allowed?
Beginning with meats, consume as much as you would like for breakfast, lunch and supper. Prepare the meats without having an excessive amount of added fat – broiling, baking, roasting, sautéing or lightly browning, then pouring off any excess liquid fat, or stir fry over high heat with a small amount of oil (No deep fat frying).
Meat has been the cornerstone belonging to the hunter-gatherer’s diet, which is presented heavily within the paleo diet. Virtually any cut of meat is permitted, however leaner cuts, such as flank steak and top sirloin, tend to be desired.
Grass-fed beef is suggested above the more typical grain-fed selection because it is leaner and more nutritious, as reported by the Agriculture and Natural Resource Department (University of California).
The paleo diet food list has meats from all animal sources, such as more exotic meats like bison and venison.

Chicken eggs truly are a preferred protein source for many dieters. Although a lot of diet programs advise just eating the whites, whole eggs tend to be suitable for the paleo diet. Due to their increased nutrient content, eggs coming from free-range chickens are advised over those from caged chickens.

Fruits and Vegetables
You can eat virtually all fruits and vegetables because they are great for you. However avoid high carbohydrate vegetables such as potatoes and sweet potatoes. If you’re a fruit lover like we are but concerned fruit is making you fat, do not worry. These fruits won’t cause you to gain unneeded weight on the paleo diet and you can eat as much as you’d like.
It’s a known fact how difficult it is to reach half your daily caloric intact eating fruits and vegetables due to the high bulk and low calorie density of fruits and salad veggies.

Oils
You can use Olive, Avocado, Walnut, Flaxseed and Canola Oils. Grapeseed oil is a great alternative to peanut oil if you need to cook something at high heat for a sear or quick cooking. Use all oil in moderation.
